Final contact will be the last time for many of you to fly upside down at UPT.
It's really a more complicated form of the midphase checkride only that the
standards are much higher. Believe or not by this point in the program,
you'll actually be kinda proficient at flying in the pattern and flying to and
from the MOAs. You'll know just about everything you need to know about
spins, stalls, ELPs, and aerobatics. Of course knowing all about them and
being able to execute them are two different stories. Most
importantly, just because you're finally getting "good" at flying the T-6, don't
get complacent since this is your first real category checkride.
The objective of this ride is to evaluate you in
most of the contact maneuvers. Specifically, the following list is what is required:
-
normal pattern and landing
-
no-flap pattern landing
-
ELP and ELP landing
-
Go-around
-
G awareness exercise
-
Slow Flight
-
Power-on stalls
-
Recoveries
-
Traffic Pattern stalls
-
Spin (if not accomplished on midphase)
-
Advanced aerobatics (3 of the 6 maneuvers)
-
Baby aerobatics (loop, aileron roll, split-s)
-
Departure to the MOA (military operating area)
-
Recovery from the area to the base
You
may or may not be allowed to use the GPS (the policy for this is different depending on what base
you're at) for navigation.
For grading, the
final contact checkride is worth approximately 11.5% of your final grade.
Unlike your midphase checkride, being safe may not be good enough to pass.
All MIF items except for advanced aerobatics are a Good. Watch the
boundaries (both vertical and lateral) while in the MOA and don't get slow when
landing. Again, whatever you do, do not tie the IP's hands by screwing up the
boldface or EP.
