The purpose of this section is to provide you with
recreational information that you and your family can enjoy. There are a
lot things to do in San Antonio but we're not going to list them all. We
just want to give you an idea of some of the things that are available but may
not be listed in the tourist guides. We also included some pictures of the
parks.
Parks/Playgrounds
Shertz Texas Park: Approximately 5
minutes from Randolph. Leaving base, make a right on FM78 and turn left
onto Shertz Parkway. The playground is located next to the city library on the
right hand side.
A beautiful park decorated with
colorful children’s art. The large playground with lots of slides and places to
explore. One large area is designated for toddlers. There are a couple of sand
areas so bring some buckets and shovels to dig. Invest in a few that can be
purchased at the Dollar Store. You will usually make some friends when you bring
your toys. Also, next to the park is a large field perfect for flying a kite on a windy
day.
Live Oak Park:
Approximately 10 minutes from Randolph. Leaving base,
head north on Pat Booker, turn left at the Taco Cabana onto Kitty Hawk.
Make a right onto Toepperwein (you'll see a Bill Mueller's restaurant on the
right). Next, make a right turn on Leafy Hollow Ct. A sign across the street
will say City Park. Travel to the end of the road and make a right turn
onto Park Dr.
Two new playgrounds are at Live
Oak Park. The first one is great for toddlers and young children. Just up the
road is the area for older kids. The baby swings are located next to older park.
There are basketball and volleyball courts, as well as, disk golf. If you would
like to try the disk golf go to the link below and print your own score card
along with a course map to take with you to the course. Have fun!

San Pedro Springs Park:
1315 San Pedro
San Antonio's oldest park and the second oldest
park in the United States behind Boston Common, San Pedro Park is also a
beautiful place. During the off season the park features a beautiful "lake/pool"
built in the original lake bed surrounded by large cypress trees. During the
summer months the lake is enclosed and serves as a swimming pool. There is no
admission fee. This is a wonderful place to go on a hot day to just cool down or
relax with a good book. The park is also home to San Pedro Playhouse, the San
Pedro branch library, McFarlin Tennis Center and Koger Stokes Softball Complex.
The park also has a children’s playground area and a skate park.
